Harvey Abernathey, principal and founder of ACI, offers over 30 years as a waterproofing professional with comprehensive hands-on and consultant experience in remedial and new construction. An experienced presenter at ASTM and local trade associations, Harvey is recognized by industry colleagues as an expert in identifying and resolving water infiltration problems. His expertise includes state of the art inspection and ASTM/AAMA testing procedures including field pressure differential leak detection and employs other sophisticated methods such as invasive inspection and non-destructive evaluation testing and analysis.

Mr. Abernathey’s expertise in building envelope integration, sealants, cement plaster, windows, and EIFS, is spearheading the company’s focus in providing solutions for water intrusion problems and addressing construction defect issues. He has been involved in numerous high profile Bay Area building projects in both litigation support and project management responsibilities.

Mr. Abernathey holds both general and specialty contracting licenses and is a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), ASTM Committee (E06), ICBO, AAMA, SWRI, WESTCON, and other industry related organizations.

Fred Honeck

Manfred (Fred) Honeck, PE

Manfred (Fred) Honeck possesses a unique background that encompasses more than 35 years in surface and moisture protection. Mr. Honeck is a pioneer in systems development and applications using waterproofing membrane and advanced liquid-applied industrial coating technologies. A professional engineer and construction consultant, Mr. Honeck also holds degrees in Coating & Resin Technology and Business Administration. California state contracting licenses include general contracting, roofing and waterproofing, painting and decorating as well as flooring. Important associations include Western Construction Consultants Association (WESTCON) past president, CSI, N.R.C.A., R.CI., ASTM, NACE et al.

As principal consultant of Aquatech Consultancy Inc. (ACI), Mr. Honeck provides leadership of an integrated and highly trained group of construction professionals engaged in water infiltration problem solving and restoration of waterproofing integrity. Considered an expert in waterproofing, decking/roofing, protective coatings, and industrial flooring, Mr. Honeck has frequently given industry presentations on waterproofing and related technical areas. Key roles in founding and managing technical companies has enabled Mr. Honeck to provide expert consultation services to a diversity of clientele relating to design analysis, defect assessment, construction litigation and mediation support.

Paul Goetz

Paul J. Goetz

Paul Goetz, Principal/Senior Consultant, has over 25 years of practical and diverse waterproofing and construction experiences in the areas of project management, contracting, specification preparation, estimating, and forensic consulting. For ten years he was the president of one of the Bay Area’s largest waterproofing, industrial seamless-flooring and specialty roofing companies. He is recognized by his peers, developers and architects as one of the foremost authorities on waterproof design, material selection and detailing.

Paul is frequently asked to make expert recommendations and share his knowledge and experiences with construction-related groups. His presentations cover the waterproofing of industrial and commercial concrete structures as well as wood framed buildings, hi-lighting material selection, maintenance requirements and experience with deck coatings. Inspection criteria, quality control and testing of waterproofing design elements are his specialty.

Mr. Goetz holds BA and MBA degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He is an experienced forensic investigator and a licensed Roofing and Waterproofing Contractor in the State of California. He is a member of the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI), Construction Specification Institute (CSI), International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) and is recently Past President of the Western Construction Consultants Association (WESTCON).

Arin Nelson

Arin A. Nelson, AIA

Arin Nelson, Principal Architect, has been a California licensed architect since 1986 (CA Lic.# C-17081). He holds a BS in Architecture from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA . In addition to extensive design work, Arin has provided construction consulting services to the legal and insurance industries since 1992 in matters involving water infiltration, construction defect liability, property loss and damage assessment of structures. His broad architectural experience involves hotels, office buildings, high-rise condominiums, and townhouse and single-family residential structures. He has testified as an expert witness for plaintiff and defense in trial, arbitration and mediation forums.

Mr. Nelson has extensively worked in matters involving repair cost estimating, cost analysis, building code interpretation, repair-monitoring, design and construction standards, construction drawing and specification preparation. As a project designer and architect, Arin performs contract administration and project management from bid to completion.
